How do I get my cat to come home?

My cat has FIV (feline HIV) so he cannot be outside! He bolted out a while ago but I know where he is. It's an area with a bunch of thick gr and there's a low stream behind it. The gr is dangerous because there are a lot of holes and probably even snakes.. He won't listen to my calls or if I tap one of his food cans. What else can I do to get him home? Do I just wait, and risk him getting hurt or infecting another cat..? He's only in the first stage so his immunities aren't too low at least. I just don't want another cat getting infected too.
